Crafting Goals You Can Actually Realize In Order To Create The Life You Want This Year
How many of your goals for this new year are remakes of goals from previous years?
How many goals from last year did you actually achieve?
If you are honest, how many years in a row have you had the same New Year’s resolution?
You are not alone. That’s why you see so many memes this time of year making a joke of goal setting and resolutions. Truth is only 8% of people achieve their New Year’s goals! (source) What? That’s crazy! I knew it was low, but I had no idea! It is not easy to create the life you want, or everyone would be a success story.
So, what can you do to have a better chance of achieving those goals? Let’s take a look!

Your goals are important!
Whether your goals are Cleaning easier, better, and faster,
Using your perfect 20/20 hindsight to create the life you want in 2020
I want to start by saying: “YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!” Yes, I just screamed that at you. It is NOT that you don’t have it in you to achieve that goal! You do!
It has been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. It seems to me that is what we often do with our goals. We think, even if inadvertently, that just making them has some great significance. It doesn’t.
They say hindsight is 2020, right? Instead of brushing our failure under the rug, never to be brought up again, we need to take a look at it good and hard. Why? So we don’t repeat it!
So, instead of saying, “I wish I had done that differently,” or,
“If I had only known!” or,
“I just couldn’t because.”
It would be LIFECHANGING for us to say
“Now I will do that differently by….” and
“Now I know! And I will…” and
“because of this obstacle, I will modify my goal or plan by…”
As the old saying goes, “Those who don’t know (or heed) the past are doomed to repeat it!”
Ill-prepared people are easy targets for defeat.
How to look at our past fails in order to create the life you want
First of all, we need to make sure of where we believe our value is. If we think our value is in being a good mom, wife, organizer, business owner, meal planner, employee, or even Christian, we have missed the mark. When we fail at those things or even have a fail in our endeavors to be those things, which most certainly will happen, then our value as a person suffers. Those are lofty endeavors, to say the least. But they do not define our value.
Our Value lies in one thing alone.
That we were created in the image of the most-high God. There is nothing we can do, or not do, Succeed, or fail at enough to change our value. We are valuable because He created us in His image and because Jesus loved us enough to take on all our imperfections (sin) and pay the penalty for them on the cross. Because of that love, we stand perfect in the eyes of God. There is nothing you or anyone else can do to impress or alter that state of affairs in any way.
Establishing that we are valuable in our own hearts and minds gives us the freedom to step out into any endeavor, no matter how scary, without the fear of failure.
Any success or failure is not connected to our worth.
Let me say that again. Any success or failure we experience is not connected to our worth. Freeing, right? We can have confidence.
Knowing that the result of our efforts doesn’t have anything to do with our value as a person is the first step to being able to look at our hindsight realistically. We can objectively look at our missteps to see what we need to change without feeling threatened.
Allowing ourselves failures is our first step toward success because it takes away the factor of fear. When we aren’t afraid of failing we can try new angles, be daring, and walk boldly into our plans.
Allowing yourself to dream big is essential to creating the life you want!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Your dreams are the Holy Spirit breathing HIS PURPOSE for you into YOUR SPIRIT! Unless you are dreaming about something that is in direct violation of the word of God, chances are that it is something that He has put inside of you. We all have a purpose and calling in life. He created you with a purpose that no one else on this earth can fulfill. It is our job to walk out in that purpose.
Realizing that God has plans to prosper us gives us the authority to step out into our dreams and goals. If He is for us, what can stand against us?
Laser-sharp focus is imperative to creating the life you want this year
The truth is: we never truly stay in the same place. We are always either moving backward or moving forward.
Each little decision to put off self-control, or to put off moving into that new ideal is a denial of your dreams and a decision to move back to the old ways.
Think about it.
How many delays in your biggest dreams are a direct result of immediately gratifying small desires?
The things we want now, that are keeping us from seeing our dreams and goals realized are always frivolous things that don’t matter in the scope of a year, a lifetime, and especially not for eternity! Yet we choose them anyway.
Learn from your unique past and plan for your future accordingly!
Remember that each small choice is a turn in the road of your journey. Just a few small detours will get you to a completely different destination.
Stay on your planned route!
